A preliminary conceptual vision for the new spire & roof of Notre Dame Cathedral, Since no one seems to wait for the official competition announcement!

This is just an initial vision sketch, and was triggered by trying to stay true to the destroyed structure, while reinterpreting in a modern language.

“In Greek mythology, a phoenix is a long-lived bird that cyclically regenerates or is otherwise born again. Associated with the Sun, a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor.”

The choice of Gold for the roof cladding is symbolic to both the fire that engulfed the cathedral and the cathedral itself being the Golden standard of Gothic Architecture.

The spire is a crystal glass structure, almost double the height of the old spire, and takes the old spire structure, and twists it to a vanishing point, to symbolize that something beautiful can come out of the flames.
